Toilet Repair FAQ

Toilets are simple until they aren't. A running fill, a rock at the base, or a slow leak can waste a lot of water without much noise.
Why does my toilet run randomly?⌄
Usually a seeping fill valve, a warped flapper, or a flush valve that doesn't seat. Hard water wears those parts faster.
How do I spot slow tank-to-bowl leaks?⌄
Drop dye tablets in the tank and don't flush. Color in the bowl means it's wasting water.
Repair vs replace toilet?⌄
Older 3.5+ gallon units with cracked porcelain or internals that keep failing are often worth replacing, if the rough-in allows a modern bowl.
Soft-close seats worth it?⌄
Nice on kids' fingers and nighttime noise. The hinge bolts have to match the bowl.
Can high pressure chatter valves?⌄
Yes. Pressure spikes hammer fills and seals. A PRV or arrestors often go with the fixture work.
Hard water effect on seals?⌄
Mineral crust lifts flappers off seats and stiffens fill diaphragms. Fixing the water chemistry beats swapping cheap flappers forever.
How long does swap install take?⌄
A straightforward swap is often a half-day job unless the flange or supplies need work.
Cost ranges?⌄
Labor plus the fixture you pick. We quote supply stops, flange work, and caulking up front.
Warranty expectations?⌄
The factory covers china and mechanisms differently than our workmanship window. Ask us to write it down.
Emergency toilet failures?⌄
If it's overflowing toward the floor, shut the angle stop if it works. Call if the valve is frozen or it looks like a sewer problem.
